The beach of Varadero extends through the narrow peninsula of Hicacos in the north of Cuba. It is located in the municipality of Cárdenas, in the province of Matanzas, 36 km from the city of Matanzas and only 130 km from Havana.
It is the first tourist destination of sun and beach in Cuba. Its unique beach of fine white sand, transparent blue green waters and soft waves, make it a masterpiece of nature. To this is added the charm that has become a spa town with many hotels and offers to have fun.
It has an airport that connects it with the main cities of the country and the rest of the world; and also from any tourist destination of the island there are offers of excursions to visit it and enjoy its charms.

Varadero is the main sun and beach destination in Cuba. In addition to the baths in its blue waters, you can practice a wide variety of water sports: diving, snorkeling, catamaran sailing, sailing or swimming with the dolphins, among others.
Very close to the beach you can visit the Josone Park, a spectacular natural area, considered the green lung of Varadero. The Park has four restaurants and a typical guarapera, in addition to a natural pond for boat rides and other water sports and several gardens for resting.
In the locality is the Varadero Golf Club, professional field of 18 holes par 72. Its route reaches 6,850 yards (6,269 m), on land designed as an island with other interior islands. It is one of the best conceived of the circuit of fields of this sport in the Caribbean.
From Varadero you can visit the nearby Zapata Peninsula, the largest wetland in the Caribbean, or the Varahicacos Ecological Reserve, where you can explore trails through rich vegetation and observe the colorful variety of exotic birds.
The Ciénaga de Zapata is an ideal scenario for bird watching, diving and hiking. Within the Ciénaga you can visit the Crocodile Breeding Zoo, a place dedicated to the breeding, and protection of two of the existing crocodile species: the Cuban crocodile and the American crocodile. It is one of the most visited and popular sites that welcomes a large number of domestic and foreign tourists who, before leaving, take a photo with one of the copies.
And only 25 minutes from Varadero is the Canímar River Tourist Park, where you can enjoy horseback riding, walks along the Canímar River, a performance of the aboriginal legends of the area, as well as a typical Cuban food.

Varadero also has options to have fun and dance at night. There are clubs, bars and places with live music or shows that vibrate with tropical rhythms.
20 minutes from Varadero, is the Tropicana Matanzas with a show with choreography and costumes that recall the glamor of the 50's.
The House of Music is another great option to have fun in the night of Varadero.
The Benny Bar is another of our recommended in Varadero. On this occasion, it is a Jazz Bar, but if you prefer something more typical visit the Palacio de la Rumba.
There are also many clubs and discos where you can dance Cuban and international music and have a few drinks.
Culture and history info
The area where Varadero is located was populated by aborigines, according to the evidence found in the Ambrosio and Muslims caves and in their indecipherable pictographs.
The town of Varadero was founded in 1887, when ten families settled in the area occupied by the famous spa, which was dedicated to the extraction of salt.
As a summer center, it began to develop at the beginning of the last century. But it was not until the end of the last century that its hotel and extra-hotel chain experienced an unprecedented growth, accompanied by the diversification and qualification of its tourism product.
Varadero is also art and culture that can be seen in its museums and art galleries that show the work of different renowned Matanzas artists and well-known Cuban painters.
