The Evangelist, first denomination of Isla de la Juventud (the Island of the Youth), named by his discoverer, the navigator Cristoforus Columbus, in 1494, during his second travels to these lands and served by space as 400 years to pirates and smugglers as it bases for his misdeeds, until its Renaissance with the revolutionary triumph on 1959.
Well-known also like Island of the Treasure, Island of the Cotorras and Island of Pines, its present name in right recognition to the thousands of young people received from 1975 who studied and developed their creative work there.
The territory, integrated between the 672 keys and small barren islands that conform the Archipelago of Canarreos, shows the visitors a rough coast with wild vegetation and a relief where the wooded hills are present, that keep under their vegetal layer, marble fortune from the diverse varieties.
The island of Youth is the region less populated in the country, and most of its inhabitants is concentrated in the north of the same one. The mere fact to arrive at the island of Youth, in boat or airplane, alewady constitutes an adventure.

In the southwestern end of the island, about 122 kilometers from New Gerona - the capital -, the National Park is located in an area of four thousand hectares Marine French End, with one of the coastal ecosystems better conserved of the country.
In the terrestrial zone figure in addition a leafy vegetation with a good habitat to the fauna associated, which includes tocororo, the cabrerito and cotorra.
In the submarine plane, it is located a coralline reef of extraordinary beauty, virginity and diversity of species, with numerous tubular sponges and abundant caves, all valid for the activity of the diving center the Colony, where diurnal and nocturnal immersions are supplied, photographs submarine and facilities of navy with dockages for 15 boats, with services of potable water, electricity and fuel.
In addition are impressive beaches and compact forests populated with palms and sulphide water springs, very demanded by the visitors.
